Legendary former Inter striker Sandro Mazzola has given his thoughts on Italy head coach Roberto Mancini after the Azzurri triumphed at EURO 2020.
Speaking to Italian news service Adnkronos, as reported by FCInter1908, the 78-year-old reflected on his memories of the Azzurri boss.
Mancini has had a decorated career as both a player and a manager, with some of his standout achievements being winning the Scudetto with Sampdoria as a player and managing Inter and Manchester City to historic league titles, and the European Championship can be added to his list of honours.
The coach achieved his first international trophy as he guided the Azzurri to a shootout triumph over England at Wembley after a 1-1 draw in the final of EURO 2022, having impressed throughout the tournament.
Nerazzurri supporters will know Mancini fondly, and as Mazzola reveals, could well have joined Inter as a player, as he eventually did as a manager.
Mazzola’s words on Mancini:
“I was in love with Mancio as a player, and Mancio as a coach is even better. He knows how to bind the players together, he knows how to give the right mentality. I liked him so much as a player that I tried to bring him to Inter when I was Sporting Director, but I never succeeded.”
