Napoli are targeting Inter midfielder Matias Vecino, with the Partenopei hoping to sign the Uruguayan on loan with an option to buy.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 29-year-old is top of Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti’s list for midfield reinforcements next season.

The Partenopei are in the hunt for a midfield signing, with Tiemoue Bakayoko having returned to Chelsea after his loan spell last season, and Diego Demme set to miss a portion of next season as he recovers from an injury.

Sheffield United’s Sander Berge, Sampdoria’s Morten Thorsby, and Sassuolo’s Pedro Obiang are all on the Campania-based club’s shopping list, but their priority target is thought to be Vecino, who is admired by Spalletti after the pair spent two seasons together when the Italian managed the Nerazzurri.

The Partenopei are looking to bring in Vecino on loan with a purchase option, in a similar operation to that which brought Bakayoko in from Chelsea last season.
