Inter defender Milan Skriniar has explained how vital his early goal was to Inter’s commanding 4-0 win over Genoa in their opening game of the Serie A season, according to a report in the broadcast media this evening.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the game, with quotes reported by FcINternews, the Slovakian centre-back revealed the mindset of the players and how the early goals in the game meant they could execute their plans perfectly.
“It was important to enter the match motivated and score as soon as possible, we succeeded, it was important to unlock it and if after 15 minutes you are on 2-0 it becomes easier.
It was Milan Skriniar himself who got Inter off the mark after just six minutes when he headed in Hakan Calhanoglu’s excellent corner. The Turkish midfielder then made it 2-0 before the 15-minute mark.
Milan Skriniar also credited the victory to the tactics and thought processes that new boss Simone Inzaghi gave to the players ahead of the game.
“The coach gave us his idea of football, many teams come here to close themselves but if you steal the ball immediately you can score and unlock it and this was a concept that the coach has given us.”
In regard to the players that have left the club such as Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi, Milan Skriniar believes the replacements are just as effective.
“The Scudetto has given us certainties but also responsibilities, important players have left but others who are equally strong have also arrived. We are still strong and we must defend the Scudetto today.”
