Striker Edin Dzeko is set to start against Real Madrid in Inter’s Champions League group stage opener, following a likely start against Sampdoria in Serie A.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the Bosnian will be entrusted with the starting berth by head coach Simone Inzaghi after his impressive start to life with the Nerazzurri.

Against Sampdoria on September 12, the Nerazzurri’s first game back from the international break, Argentine forwards Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa are serious doubts to start given that they will have only recently returned from international duty.

Accordingly, the South American duo are likely to start on the bench, while Dzeko will be given the starting role at the Marassi.

It is also highly probable that the 35-year-old will once again be handed a start against Real Madrid on the fifteenth, with the former Roma man an important point of reference for Inzaghi’s team.
