Inter defender Federico Dimarco is happy to have made a major contribution in the Nerazzurri’s 2-2 draw against Sampdoria today, even if the result was not what was desired.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 23-year-old opened up about his feelings about his place in the team after the match, and his reaction to the match.

Dimarco started in place of the injured Alessandro Bastoni on the left side of the defense, and put in a solid shift which was highlighted by an excellent free kick to open the scoring, before being substituted late in the match due to suffering from cramp.

The defender showed his quality and versatility in the match, proving that he can play in the backline as he had done last season under current Torino boss when he was on loan with Hellas Verona.

On his strike to open the scoring, Dimarco said, “Scoring in the colours of my heart is spacial, it’s a shame we could only get the draw. We must continue to work hard and do well this week, against Real Madrid and Bologna.”

About his preferred role in the team, Dimarco stated that “I play where the coach decides, I also played in a three-man defense in Verona. I developed there a lot. For me it is the same, then it is obvious that if I play later, I can score more.”

Asked how it would decided that he would take the free kick rather that Hakan Calhanoglu, he joked that “I shoot with my left foot, he with his right.”
