Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni could be ruled out of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday as a precaution to avoid aggravating a thigh injury he has only just healed from.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 22-year-old has made a full recovery from a strain to his left thigh flexors, but that he likely will not be selected in the Nerazzurri’s group stage opener with the match considered to be too soon in relation to his recovery.

Bastoni picked up the knock while on international duty with the Italian national side during the international break, and he was ruled out of yesterday’s Serie A clash with Sampdoria entirely through the injury.

The defender could be available to be in the squad by the time of Wednesday’s encounter with Real, but his participation is nevertheless in serious doubt with the club not likely to want to risk him.
