Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries could make his first start for the Nerazzurri on Wednesday in the club’s Champions League group stage opener against Real Madrid.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport who report that head coach Simone Inzaghi will hand the 25-year-old his first start either in the Real clash or in next weekend’s Serie A match against Bologna.

Dumfries has yet to make an appearance from the start for the Nerazzurri since joining from PSV in the summer, but he is nearing readiness to do so.

The Dutchman was brought on midway through the second half to replace Matteo Darmian in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Sampdoria, and he performed well in the place of the disappointing Darmian.

Inzaghi could soon be ready to make the 25-year-old a regular fixture in the team and his first major test from the start could come in Wednesday’s Champions League fixture.
