Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata had been interested in joining Inter in the summer when he was linked to the club, but he is not upset to have missed out on the move.

Speaking in a press conference before Atalanta’s Champions League clash with Manchester United, the Colombian explained that he had been tempted by the Nerazzurri’s interest, but that he is also happy to remain at his current club.

Zapata had reportedly been one of Inter’s top targets as they sought to reinforce their attack after the shock sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea in the summer.

In the end, Roma’s Edin Dzeko and Lazio’s Joaquin Correa were the two players who the Nerazzurri turned to, and Zapata remained in Bergamo for the season.

The striker is fine with this outcome, though he admits the he was flattered by the interest of the Italian champions and would have considered the switch.

“I was tempted by Inter, but I had my ideas,” he stated. “I’m happy to have stayed here in Bergamo. I think it was the best thing for me and my family.”
