Inter and AC Milan have officially announced the “Cathedral” design US architectural design firm Populous as the chosen project for the new stadium in Milan.
This is confirmed in a statement on the Nerazzurri’s official site, where they explain the nature of the project and the benefits involved.
Inter and Milan have been looking to move forward on the new stadium in the city to replace the San Siro, with the clubs feeling that it will be necessary to modernize their infrastructure and increase revenues.
The selection of the “Cathedral” design represents an important step towards the construction being able to start on the new stadium, which is projected to be ready by 2027.
The go-ahead on construction has been received from the city council of Milan, although it remains to be seen if construction can begin soon with some opposition to the project existing, especially related to the demolition of the San Siro.
