Italian journalist Riccardo Cucchi feels that the unexpected loss by AC Milan at the San Siro to Spezia on Monday gave an unexpected boost to Inter in the Scudetto race.

Speaking on his radio program on RAI Radio, Cucchi explained how the Rossoneri’s slip-up handed the Nerazzurri the initiative in a way that they will not have necessarily anticipated.

Inter’s point away to Atalanta was not a bad result for them given the difficulty of the fixture, but they will have expected that their city rivals could have gone ahead of the top of the table with a winnable fixture against Spezia.

Instead, the Rossoneri lost to the Ligurian side, albeit in controversial circumstances, and the Nerazzurri finished the weekend two points ahead of their city rivals with a game in hand.

Inter managed to gain ground on Milan with their goalless draw against Atalanta, and their Scudetto charge has only been strengthened.

Cucchi felt that “Inter received an unexpected help from Milan, who won’t have wanted to give it. The less said about the refereeing the better, however.”
