Legendary former Inter defender Robin Gosens believes that the Nerazzurri are still aiming to keep Ivan Perisic on alongside Robin Gosens for seasons to come.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former defender emphasized that his understanding is that the Nerazzurri are still hoping to extend the contract of the Croat in spite of the arrival of Gosens last week.
Gosens arrived from Atalanta and will be expected to strengthen the left-sided position in the team for seasons to come, including potentially holding down the starting role in the event that Perisic departs at the end of his contract.
With the Croat seeing his deal expire at the end of June, the Nerazzurri must consider the possibility that they could lose him should they prove unable to agree an extension.
However, according to Bergomi, the club’s priority is to have both players to really strengthen the position, rather than to see Perisic’s place taken by Gosens starting next season.
“I know that Inter’s intention is to make a push to renew with Perisic,” he said. “They will only go so high on wages, but they want to renew. They would have a brilliant left side then.”
