Inter defender Milan Skriniar is ready for one of the most significant matches of the team’s season in the form of this evening’s derby clash with AC Milan.
Speaking to InterTV before the match, the 26-year-old emphasized how the derby is a match unlike any other for the players as well as for the fans as the Nerazzurri are about to take on their city rivals for the second time this season in Serie A.
The Milan derby is one of the showpiece matches in Italian football every time it’s played, and this season it’s especially significant as it pits first-place Inter against second-place Milan.
The Nerazzurri will see it as an opportunity to widen their advantage at the top of the table, and the Rossoneri will see it as a priceless chance to gain ground, but neither will be underestimating their opponent or taking any result for granted.
“The derby is a great match,” Skriniar said, “we’re playing at home and our fans are here watching us. We have to give everything, we have to play a great game, we know we are facing a strong team.”
He went on that “Milan are an excellent team with great players, we need to be focused and manage the game.”
He emphasized the need to “Concentrate for ninety minutes or else risk letting them play their game.”
“It’s never a match like any other,” he said of the Milan derby, “for us and for the fans.”
The defender also pointed out that “It will not be a decisive game, there are still many games to go. It’s worth three points just like every other, even if it certainly feels like more from a psychological point of view.”
