Inter head coach Simone Inzgahi feels that his team lost in this evening’s derby clash with AC Milan 2-1 because they came out on the wrong end of some key episodes.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the coach emphasized the view that the Nerazzurri had mostly managed to acquit themselves well but that they lacked the luck to turn their performance into a result.

Inter looked to be their usual selves for the most part in the first half, creating a number of chances but either missing the net or having their efforts well-saved by Rossoneri keeper Mike Maignan apart from Ivan Perisic’s goal.

In the second half, the Nerazzurri became more cautious, while their city rivals pushed with increasing tempo as the half wore on, and they found their equalizer through Olivier Giroud before the Frenchman made it a quickfire brace to put his team ahead.

Inter had no answer and lost for the second time this season in Serie A, but in the view of the coach this was because of a few key moments rather than a reflection of a poor overall performance.

“The result is deceiving, but that’s football,” he reflected. “We needed to find a way to score a goal in the first 65 minutes when we were dominant.”

“The episodes penalized us,” he added, “but we certainly will have to go back and analyze why, because we lost in the derby.”

He felt that “There were many factors, we could have been more clinical and composed. They suffered and stayed in the game, and then they did very well to overturn the score in the last two episodes.”

“We’ll have to do a good job figuring out what went well and what didn’t, because we have a number of important games immediately awaiting us,” he emphasized.

On the twenty-minute period where his team let the result slip away, Inzaghi reflected that “We lost a bit of control of the ball, where we had been very good in the first 65 minutes, then there were two episodes towards the end which condemned us to a heavy defeat.”

“This is football,” he closed, “you have to keep your head clear and move forward.”
