Inter are still aiming to agree a contract extension with wing-back Ivan Perisic past this summer despite the arrival of Robin Gosens to compete in his position.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri still want to extend the Croat’s deal as he is an important player in the team.

Perisic’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June, but the club still have hope that they can convince him to stay on past that time, with his excellent display against AC Milan yesterday once again underlining his continued value to the team.

Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta had confirmed yesterday that the club don’t feel that the signing of Gosens from Atalanta changes anything with Perisic’s situation.

Gosens arrives to bolster the left side of the team for seasons to come, but for the immediate future the Nerazzurri are still hoping to continue on with Perisic.

The club are aiming to start talks soon and will make Perisic a renewal offer, though it will be at somewhat reduced terms compared to his current deal.

The 33-year-old could seek a new challenge before his career winds down, but should he not receive any significant offers then he could decide to accept a new deal with the Nerazzurri.
