Inter defender Stefan de Vrij was partly to blame for both of Olivier Giroud’s second-half goals for AC Milan in the Rossoneri’s 2-1 derby defeat of the Nerazzurri yesterday evening.

This was reflected in the mediocre grades that the 30-year-old received across the board for his display in the player ratings from the match in Italian media, as reported by L’Interista.

Inter had looked in control and capable of seeing out their 1-0 lead for three massive points against their city rivals before crumbling and allowing Milan striker Giroud to bag a quickfire second-half brace.

De Vrij had mostly looked solid in defending in the penalty area while his team were in control, but as the Rossoneri pushed for a goal in the second half he was as culpable as anyone for the equalizer caused by frantic defending.

On Giroud’s second, the Dutchman was even more clearly at fault, getting spun by the striker who sent his shot past Nerazzurri keeper Samir Handanovic.

All of the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport, and L’Interista felt that de Vrij’s display was only worthy of a 5/10, while TuttoMercatoWeb were slightly more forgiving with a 5.5/10 score and Tuttosport handed him a failing 4.5/10 grade.
