Inter defender Milan Skriniar is glad to have seen his team bounce back from Saturday’s derby loss to AC Milan with a convincing display to get past Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the 26-year-old stated that he and his teammates had agreed that they needed to show that they could immediately get back to winning ways following the derby loss.
Inter were bitterly disappointed to lose to the Rossoneri in a match which saw them throw away a lead to allow their city rivals as well as Napoli a route back into the Scudetto race.
They could hardly become preoccupied with the disappointment of that defeat, however, as they had to face Roma just a couple days later in a match to try and move on to the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
The Nerazzurri defeated the Giallorossi 2-0, and Skriniar is especially pleased that they were able to bounce back immediately after the derby.
“We analyzed the match, there were a couple minutes where we switched off,” he said of the derby.
“The important thing was to show a reaction, we wanted to progress. Now we have a tough schedule ahead of us but we’re well-prepared.”
“We managed to do it,” he added, “we played a good game. We managed it well even after going 1-0 up, we sealed it with a great goal from Alexis.”
And on his heroic goal-line clearance, albeit from a shot which turned out to come from an offside position, he said that “I saw Samir had gone off his line, I took a chance because the goal was wide open.
“I was very happy, but moreso because the team won.”
