Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has said that Milan Skriniar is the leader of Inter’s defence and that there is no clear favourite to win the match against Napoli on Saturday, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during a long interview with Il Mattino, Beppe Bergomi explained that Milan Skriniar’s mindset and reliability make him the leader of Inter’s defence.

“I would say that the leader is Skriniar, a guy who always thinks positively and hardly misses a match.”

Inter are playing a crucial match against Napoli on Saturday evening which could see Luciano Spalletti’s side take top spot in the Serie A table.

Beppe Bergomi feels that given the form of the teams, there is no clear favourite to win the match.

“Napoli are psychologically well after the victory against Venezia and for having come back in the standings, but Inter are doing well too, who played well for 70 minutes in the derby and immediately reacted with a great victory against Roma. It will be a balanced match without any favourites.”

When asked about the key battles within the match, Beppe Bergomi highlighted the battle on Inter’s left-hand side where Ivan Perisic will be, and Marcelo Brozovic’s job against Piotr Zielinski.

“In addition to the long-distance duel between Osimhen and Dzeko, those on the attacking wing on the left of Inter will be fundamental, where Perisic plays, who will compete with Di Lorenzo and with Politano.

“And then the duel between Zielinski and Brozovic, the Pole will have to be good at pressing the Nerazzurri midfielder because he is the one who drives the whole team.”

Beppe Bergomi does not think the match will be decisive for the Scudetto and he admitted that he chose Napoli as his favourites at the beginning of the season.

“It will be a match between two teams fighting for the Scudetto, a race in which AC Milan must be included with the same percentages: a very important match but not decisive because then there are still many games to play.

“In the summer I predicted Napoli as the favourite for the title. Thanks to their deep squad and cover in all roles, Inter are in the lead playing great football and will have to recover the game against Bologna even if they will have to win the three points on the pitch.”

When asked what he likes the most about this current Inter side, Beppe Bergomi pointed out the desire to dominate matches.

“This desire of theirs to always dominate the game, to take charge even if every now and then it can go wrong and you lose like against Milan.

“I really like to see how many players accompany the attacking action with the midfielders who propose themselves and the desire to always set up from the back, in this sense the absence of a left-handed like Bastoni is important.”

He also labelled Edin Dzeko as the attacking director of the team, saying: “Dzeko is the attacking director of the team, he moves, goes to meet, plays the ball, in addition to scoring goals, a very useful striker: he is the regular holder of Inter, the others, Lautaro and Sanchez, alternate.”
