Inter defender Milan Skriniar feels that Inter showed that they can go toe-to-toe with Liverpool despite losing 2-0 to the Reds.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the 26-year-old gave the view that he and his teammates showed that they were not overawed by the quality of the reds and can hold their own against top-quality opposition.

The Nerazzurri fell to two second-half goals on the night, but they had hardly looked out of place in the first half of the match and especially in an ascendant spell during the first part of the second half.

The loss was a damaging one that leaves Inter teetering on the brink of elimination from Europe’s top competition, but there was much about the performance that was encouraging.

Skriniar is proud of the way that the Nerazzurri showed their quality against the highest quality of opposition.

“In some spots we dominated,” the defender said, “today we saw that Inter can play on par with anyone.”

“Now the league awaits us and then we will be ready for the second leg,” he added. “We did what we had to do and what we talked about before the match,”

“As with against Real, if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net, they can punish you from a set piece, and so it went,” he concluded.
