Inter striker Edin Dzeko has said that Inter were the best team for 75 minutes against Liverpool on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media last night.

Speaking after the match to Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, the Bosnian forward showed how happy he was with many aspects of the Nerazzurri’s performance against Liverpool.

“We conceded few chances, we gave everything and for 75 minutes we were the best team.”

He then admitted that if you do not take your chances in these games against team like Liverpool, you get punished. That is what happened when Roberto Firmino made it 1-0 with a header.

“Then we conceded the goal, if you don’t score against these teams then they punish you. In the Champions League, we paid for it. Had we scored, we would have had more confidence and the game could have gone in other directions, but we didn’t manage it.”

In terms of how the former Manchester City striker feels about the return leg at Anfield, he is focusing more heavily on Serie A now as the team host Sassuolo on Sunday.

“We gave everything, we are aware that we have given everything to try to win against one of the best in Europe, now we focus on Serie A and then let’s see.”

Roberto Firmino gave Liverpool the lead with a quarter of an hour left to play when he headed in from a corner. Mohamed Salah soon made it 2-0 to the reds.
