Italian journalist Matteo Marani has said that Inter play excellent football following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport in Italy, via FCInternews, Matteo Marani discussed the 2-0 defeat that the Nerazzurri suffered on Wednesday night at San Siro in the Champions League.

He praised the style of football that Simone Inzaghi’s side play but suggested that Liverpool had Inter where they wanted them all the time and then scored when they needed to.

“Inter play excellent football, but it is a team that works a lot and in the final section they pay for it. I had the impression that Liverpool played a bit as they wanted: they waited for the moment to strike, this is their strength and this is why they are one of the strongest teams around.”

Inter were very impressive for the first 75 minutes of the game and looked the more likely team to score out of the two. Liverpool’s substitutions then changed the game and they went on to score twice in the final 15 minutes.

Lautaro Martinez has been criticised by many for his performance but Matteo Marani feels that his quality cannot be questioned.

“Lautaro’s quality cannot be argued, he has class and has everything to determine games. With Lukaku he was in his ideal dimension, today he shortens Dzeko and he has to go in-depth. Last year, however, everything passed by him.”
