Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku’s hopes of returning to former club Inter on loan remain slim, with little to no chance of a permanent deal being found.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgium international is unsettled at Stamford Bridge and keen to return to Serie A, having endured a miserable season in the Premier League.
Lukaku fired Inter to the Scudetto last season before joining Chelsea in a €115 million deal, but has struggled for goals and was left out of the Blues’ 2-0 win over Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Inter would not be able to afford to sign Lukaku on a permanent deal and any hopes of a return hinge on Chelsea sanctioning a dry loan, although sporting director Marina Granovskaia is unconvinced.
Similarly, the former Manchester United striker’s €12.5m per season wages in London are almost double Inter’s budget, but Lukaku is thought to be willing to take a pay cut to seal a move back to the Stadio San Siro.
He is believed to have been affected by the constant criticism in England and hopes to move back to Inter, but any move would be extremely complicated and remains unlikely.
