Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is glad that his team are in great form in their Serie A title pursuit, but knows how long there still is to go.
Speaking to InterTV following the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Roma earlier this evening, the coach emphasized that the team must still do everything to win the matches that they have ahead of them.
Inter made it five wins from five in all competitions since the return from the international break by beating the Giallorossi, suggesting that they have the form to go all the way in the Serie A title race.
Inter’s fate is in their own hands as if they win all their remaining matches they are mathematically guaranteed to win the Scudetto, but this is anything but certain and they have no margin for error.
Inzaghi is happy with what he’s been seeing and very confident, but he’s counterbalancing this with an awareness of the scale of the task that still remains for them.
“Unfortunately, there’s still a long way to go,” he said of the idea that the Nerazzurri are now title favourites.
“We have a very busy schedule with intense and difficult matches, including the Coppa Italia final,” he pointed out. “We’ll have to be good at recovering our physical and mental energy.”
The coach described playing in front of a packed San Siro as “Beautiful. Seventy-five thousand people, plus the other seventy-five thousand in the derby, these were two fantastic nights.”
“Unfortunately, football doesn’t allow us to enjoy them enough because tomorrow we already have to think about Bologna,” he added, describing the Rossoblu as “a difficult opponent who will create problems for us.”
Of the Nerazzurri’s form, Inzaghi said that “The team is doing well. When you win five games in a row there is excellent moral,e but we know we have to keep going and take as many points as possible.”
“The other teams are also flying, we are chasing after them but let’s see what happens,” he said.
Regarding the period of bad form that the team have now put behind them, the coach said that “We played excellent football throughout that period. Then we suffered a decline, where some teams went ahead of us, more in terms of results than performances.”
“Unfortunately we know that in football episodes are decisive and hitting the post or a few too many wasted opportunities caused us to drop points that we must be good at recovering,” he added.
“We must keep picking them up because these are not enough,” he stressed.
