Inter are considering a move for Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi as an experienced, low-cost option to reinforce in defense for next season.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri could use part of the fee from a sale of striker Andrea Pinamonti to sign the 34-year-old.
Inter plan to sign one defender during the summer transfer to replace Andrea Ranocchia who’s left for Monza, and the possibility of a lower-cost arrival is being strongly considered as the player would be a backup rather than a player for the starting eleven.
Acerbi is a player who coach Simone Inzaghi has worked with while in charge of Lazio and could be trusted to bolster the defense with reliable performances without costing a large fee.
Pinamonti is expected to be sold during the transfer window with the Nerazzurri aiming for around €20 million for the 23-year-old, and part of that amount could be put towards a small investment in Acerbi.
