Former Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen has opened up about his decision to join the Nerazzurri from Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to UK tabloid the Daily Mail, the Dane explained that he had wanted to try his hand at an experience outside of the Premier League, and also said that he enjoyed his time with the Nerazzurri.

Eriksen was only able to spend a season and a half at Inter due to his shock health scare at the Euros last summer which made him unable to play in Italy any longer due to health regulations in the country.

The Dane nevertheless had a positive spell in Serie A, growing into a starting spot in the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven after an inauspicious start and helping the team to their first Scudetto in eleven years.

The 30-year-old reflected on his experience and his decision to join Inter in January of 2020, stating that “I was at Spurs at the time and I really couldn’t see myself playing in another English team at that time. I went abroad and went to Inter.”

“So, it’s been on the books, well, not on the books but it’s been spoken about,” he continued. “For me, it wasn’t the right timing, it wasn’t there and I was at a place at Spurs for a long time and I wanted to try something abroad and I went to Inter and ended up having a lovely time.”
