Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was in danger of losing his authority over the team but has reasserted himself with some smart decisions this month, according to Italian journalist Fabio Ravezzani.

The Nerazzurri had endured a difficult start to the season and had only won five of their opening 10 matches in all competitions when they lost to Roma at the start of October, but have since gone unbeaten and been victorious in their last four league games.

Speaking on the QSVS YouTube channel, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, the Telelombardia director suggested that Inzaghi had lost the dressing room during the poor run of games, and this was evidenced by his decisions to switch between veteran goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and Andre Onana.

“The league hierarchies are changing, and in my opinion Napoli are now at the same level as Inter,” Ravezzani claimed.

“The Nerazzurri still have something more for me, but if anything Inter’s start of the season was anomalous.

“Inzaghi at a certain point had lost the dressing room a bit and this was confirmed by the choices in goal, the Handanovic-Onana alternation gave an idea of Inzaghi’s difficulties.”

However, the journalist pinpointed the key decision that Inzaghi got right in order to pull Inter out of their slump, as he utilised Hakan Calhanoglu in the midfield role normally reserved for the injured Marcelo Brozovic.

“Inzaghi’s most interesting move was to bet on Calhanoglu in front of the defence,” he continued.

“He is in the category of midfielders who, for quality, perform better in front of the defence than more advanced, and his ability to pass through the lines, which Brozovic lacks somewhat, was perhaps the turning point of Inter.”

Ravezzani warned that Inter were not completely clear yet and that a difficult fixture list would be the true test of their form.

“Before all the fanfare at Inter, however, we have to wait for two tests of Juventus and Atalanta, away matches that the Nerazzurri must win.

“From these two games we will have the real dimension of Inter in Serie A,” he added.
