Albania coach Edy Reja has suggested that Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani ought to have gone out on loan this season to aid his development.

The 20-year-old joined Inter from Empoli this summer but has failed to break into the first team on a regular basis, with the form of Hakan Calhanoglu limiting him to just 312 minutes of action across 12 appearances in Serie A and the Champions League.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, former Napoli coach Reja offered his thoughts on what would have been best for Albania international Asllani upon joining Inter, with an immediate temporary move affording him more playing time.

“Ten months ago he was not a regular at Empoli, but he finished the season well,” Reja claimed.

“He needs to play, maybe a loan move would help him to mature. He risks losing a year, it’s not easy at Inter,” he added.

Asllani made his international debut for Albania against Spain in March of this year under Reja, and has since won a further four caps for his country.
