Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries is set to be in the Dutch national team’s starting eleven for this evening’s World Cup group stage opener against Senegal, whilst defender Stefan de Vrij will be left out.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri duo will be started and benched respectively by Oranje coach Louis van Gaal.
Both Dumfries and de Vrij are representing the Nerazzurri in the Netherlands’ squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year.
Dumfries is set to start on his customary role on the right flank as the Oranje look to kick their tournament off with a win as they face Senegal in their first group stage match of the tournament.
Meanwhile, defender de Vrij is not set to be part of the Dutch national team’s back three, whilst Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners will start in midfield but his club teammate Marten de Roon will be left out according to the Gazzetta.
