Inter wingback Matteo Darmian insists that he is over his recent injury problems after netting a late equaliser in this evening’s 1-1 draw against Real Betis in Seville.

The Italian international was ruled out of Inter’s final two Serie A matches in November due to a muscle strain, but played the final 30 minutes of the friendly at the Estadio Benito Villamarin and struck late on, just minutes after Juanmi had put the Spanish club ahead.

In an interview published on the club’s official website, Inter.it, after the final whistle, the former Manchester United spoke of his happiness at being able to return to the pitch for the Nerazzurri.

“It was important for me to get minutes on the pitch. I was coming back from an injury and everything went well,” Darmian said.

“Now we have a few weeks to get ready for the restart of the championship. The team is preparing well.”

Inter’s match against Real Betis saw coach Simone Inzaghi experiment with a new formation that saw midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan play off lone striker Edin Dzeko, and Darmian praised the Armenian for his versatility and contribution to the team.

“Mkhitaryan behind Dzeko? Mkhi is an important player who can play in several roles. He’s a big help because he can do everything,” he concluded.

Darmian joined Inter from Parma in 2020 and has made 83 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
