Inter’s record in their first Serie A match back from the winter break over the last ten seasons won’t make for the most encouraging reading for fans hoping for a win in the head-to-head clash with Napoli on January 4.
This is highlighted by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via L’Interista, who noted that the Nerazzurri have won just five out of the ten matches over the last decade, drawing three and losing two during the period.
Inter’s clash with league leaders Napoli is virtually must-win for the Nerazzurri.
The prospect of immediately reducing the gap from the eleven points that it was going into the winter break to eight will be a very enticing one for the Nerazzurri.
However, even a draw would see the Partenopei at least maintain their sizable advantage, whilst a loss would all but put Inter out of the Serie A title race.
Inter won their first match back from the break 2-1 against Lazio last time around, whilst two seasons ago they beat Crotone 6-2 in their first match of January.
However, over the last decade the Nerazzurri’s record in their return from the holidays has been far from perfect, and they will have to hope for an improvement against the Partenopei.
