Milan Mayor Beppe Sala believes that Inter and AC Milan will have to deal with the reality of the situation if they are to build a new stadium within the city of Milan.
Speaking to the press, as reported by L’Interista, Sala made clear that the clubs will have to reconcile with the demands of the city or else move their plans to another location.
Inter and Milan have made progress towards starting construction on a new stadium in Milan after securing approval from the City Council following a public debate.
However, the City Council have made a number of requests for changes to the plans as part of their conditional approval.
Most notable, the Council’s requests have included expanded capacity, and more green space as part of the project.
Inter and Milan are not yet in the clear as far as being able to start on their plans, but as far as Sala is concerned, the two clubs must make do with the situation as it is.
“The public debate has given us some indications as to what must be done,” Sala said.
“I believe that the public interest can be recognized.”
“At this point, the situation is what it is, the teams can build in place of the San Siro, but they must make do with a difficult situation or else build in Sesto San Giovanni.”
