Inter are set to put a significant amount of their focus on progressing in cup competitions now that the Serie A title looks increasingly like it is an impossible dream.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the Nerazzurri’s approach will shift towards the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.
Whilst Inter are not mathematically out of the Serie A title race, the thirteen-point gap from the top as well as the imperious form shown by league leaders Napoli is enough to suggest that the Scudetto is almost out of sight.
However, in knockout competitions, it is a different story.
In the Coppa Italia, Inter have a two-legged semifinal tie against Juventus to look forward to, the team who they beat in the final of the competition last season.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League, a round of sixteen tie against Porto will hardly be easy but certainly looks winnable.
According to the Corriere, the mindset at the Nerazzurri is starting to become that whilst the title is likely not attainable, successfully defending last season’s Coppa Italia crown and making a run in Europe could be a path forward that saves the season.
