Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been praised as his team’s best performer in a goalless draw away to Sampdoria in Serie A.

The Turkish midfielder was given a score of 7/10 in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that he was hardly the man at fault for his team’s blunt performance.

Calhanoglu once again started in one has started to become his customary position deep in the midfield, and the 29-year-old gave yet another demonstration of how well-suited he has become to the role.

The former AC Milan midfielder’s efficient passing and defensive awareness without the ball were key to the Nerazzurri penning the Blucerchiati back in their own half, particularly in the first half of the match.

Inter were not able to take more than a point from the match thanks to their profligacy in front of goal, but this was not because of any fault from Calhanoglu, the Gazzetta argue, and he even looked as likely as anyone to get on the scoresheet with his long-range shots.
