Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte feels that it’s not unexpected that he would get a hostile reception from AC Milan supporters in yesterday evening’s Champions League clash with AC Milan given his association with Juventus and Inter.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, via FCInterNews, the Spurs coach brushed off the jeers of the Rossoneri supporters at the San Siro.

Conte’s team had their task in trying to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League made more difficult yesterday as Milan got a 1-0 win over them.

Moreover, on the coach’s return to the San Siro, he was not exactly welcomed.

Many fans of the Rossoneri showed just what they thought of the coach, who had faced their team on many occasions whilst coach of the Bianconeri and then in several heated derby clashes as Nerazzurri coach, with their response.

For his part, Conte stated that “It’s part of a match, it’s part of fan culture.”

“We need to be calm and accept it,” he continued, “it’s fine, I’ve never been a coach or player for Milan.”

Conte noted that “I’ve played for and coached Juve, I’ve coached Inter, it’s to be expected that there are rivalries and there’s jeering as long as it stays within reasonable limits.”

“Indeed, I have to congratulate Milan for what they accomplished last season,” the coach added, referring to the Rossoneri’s Serie A title victory.
