Former Inter winger Cesar Aparecido believes that Inter are trying to make up for the disappointments of their league campaign with performances in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Brazilian stressed the view that the Nerazzurri can save their season through the cup competitions.

Inter have virtually no chance of catching Napoli in the Serie A table, given that the Partenopei’s lead at the top has ballooned to fifteen points.

However, the cup competitions are wide open for the Nerazzurri, beginning with tomorrow’s Champions League round of sixteen first leg match against Porto.

A Coppa Italia semifinal tie against Juventus also awaits, and the Nerazzurri will have the chance to fight for silverware to come, even if the possibility of doing so in the league appears a distant dream given the gap from Napoli.

“Unfortunately, Napoli are virtually uncatchable in the league at the moment,” Aparecido said, “but I still think that Inter can save their season by proving themselves in Europe, and then successfully defending their Coppa Italia title.”
