Inter look to be struggling with a lack of motivation and tactical freshness based on their approach in recent matches.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who argue that the Nerazzurri have looked like a team going through the motions in dropped points against Sampdoria and Bologna in the league.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has always been ironclad in his preference for a 3-5-2 formation, and whilst there may be variations on the basic theme to suit different situations and opponents, the coach has virtually never changed the system itself.
The Nerazzurri have tried to find solutions to matches by pushing more defenders into the attack to create numerical superiority, relying on the technical ability of players like Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar.
However, in some recent matches, the sense has been that teams have had the answer to defending the attacking patterns based around this system, even when more defenders get involved.
Moreover, the Correire della Sera argue, the Nerazzurri have also looked a bit listless, and too complacent about passing the ball around without really breaking down opponents.
For the newspaper, the issue here has been the absence of real motivation on the part of the Inter players to go beyond the formulaic play and push for alternative solutions to difficult matches.
