Inter are set to have their focus and motivation in “smaller” matches tested in their next couple Serie A matches, against the likes of Lecce at home and Spezia away.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who note that recent dropped points have cast doubt on the Nerazzurri’s ability to win these kinds of matches, and so the team will have to do better.

If Inter have more than proven that they are up to matches against their toughest rivals with wins against all of Napoli, Atalanta, AC Milan, and Porto since the winter break, inability to keep that momentum up against “minnows” has become a theme.

The Nerazzurri will hardly have expected a grand total of two points taken from matches against Monza, Empoli, Sampdoria, and Bologna, but they hardly deserved more for what were turgid performances.

The loss away to the Rossoblu looks to have been something of a “last straw” in this respect, as regaining the motivation and intensity needed to win these matches has become just as critical to Inter’s push for top four in Serie A as being able to turn up for the biggest matches.

For this reason, the “easy” clashes with Lecce and Spezia could prove to be just as big tests of this Inter team’s mettle as more “important” matches against Porto and Juventus later on this month.
