Inter and Milan-linked Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa would still like to be at a Champions League club at some point in his career.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Marca, via FCInterNews, the 37-year-old made clear that he feels that he can have a place at a club in Europe’s top competition, also noting that he has an EU passport which would mean that he would not take up an EU spot.

Mexican international Ochoa, who has made 134 appearances for El Tri, joined Salernitana during the January transfer window from Club America.

It was a return to European football for a player who’d also been at the likes of Ajaccio, Malaga, and Standard Liege at points during his career.

Ochoa has been one of the players linked with Inter as a replacement for Samir Handanovic as backup to Andre Onana for next season, whilst their city rivals AC Milan have also been linked with a move.

The experienced keeper noted that “The big clubs in Italy already know that I have an EU passport, which makes everything easier.”

“I’ve always been asked why I’ve never joined a big club in Europe, and the matter of a passport was always crucial.”

“Clubs have said yes, but then they didn’t have an extra non-EU spot in their squad,” Ochoa noted.

“I can bring a serious attitude to a team, experience, and I can do so either as first-choice or backup,” he went on.

Ochoa noted that “I hope to one day be able to play in the Champions League.”

“We’ll see what happens in the next six months of my contract [with Salernitana], I could already be available on a free transfer in the summer.”
