Inter wingback Robin Gosens is hoping that he can prove that he deserves the faith of the team and the coach with a good performance against Lecce in this evening’s Serie A match.

Speaking to InterTV ahead of the match, via FCInterNews, the 28-year-old noted that his start against the Puglian team will be the first time that he’s started two matches in a row for the Nerazzurri, and made clear that he wants to prove himself worthy.

Since his arrival from Atalanta last January, Gosens has yet to nail down a starting role on the left flank for himself.

Whilst the German has made plenty of appearances, particularly from the bench, he found himself behind Ivan Perisic in the pecking order last season, whilst this time around it has been Federico Dimarco who has generally been preferred in the lineup.

However, with Dimarco not fit, Gosens is now receiving a run of starts, first against Bologna last weekend and now against Lecce, and the former Atalanta man is aiming to make an impact with the opportunities he is given.

The German noted that “This is the first time I’ve made two consecutive starts, the coach is giving me more consistency and I have to repay his trust on the pitch.”

Of this evening’s match, Gosens said that “We want to win today’s match at all in order to get back on the right track, we want to bounce back after a tough defeat last weekend.”

He noted that “Lecce are a quality side who have shown that they’re in form, but if we show our quality then I believe we can win this match.”
