Lecce coach Marco Baroni feels that at the end of the day, his side came up against a very strong Inter team who put in an excellent performance.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after his team’s 2-0 loss to the Nerazzurri, via FCInterNews, the coach made clear that from his perspective, credit has to be given to the Nerazzurri for making life so difficult for his side.
Inter got the better of Lecce yesterday evening, and whilst this may not appear a hugely significant achievement given that the Puglians are a newly-promoted team in the bottom half of the table, they have proven their quality against top opposition on numerous occasions this season.
Baroni would have been forgiven for being hopeful that there would be a result for the taking against a team who they had only lost to via a last-gasp Denzel Dumfries in the reverse meeting on the very first day of the season.
“We have to give credit to Inter who played a great match,” the Lecce coach said.
“And then the balance of the match was thrown off, we weren’t at our best.”
“I was still happy with how my team performed,” he added.
