Inter striker Romelu Lukaku asked Nerazzurri fans to give the team their trust despite recent results in an encounter after Friday’s draw away to Salernitana in Serie A.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Belgian spoke directly with fans after the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Arechi, who appreciated his honesty and willingness to take responsibility.

There is no disguising the fact that Inter have been in a miserable run of form, and the manner in which the team let a 1-0 lead slip late on following a slew of missed chances to extend their lead has only piled the misery on more.

According to the Gazzetta, the Curva Nord ultras group has grown more restless, even after having forestalled the possibility of a direct meeting with the team following the loss to Fiorentina due to the intense schedule in April.

However, Lukaku did go and speak with the travelling fans at the Arechi on Friday after the disappointing result.

The striker admitted that things aren’t going to plan and that the team should be doing better with the opportunities that they are creating.

However, the Gazzetta reports, the 29-year-old also stressed that “We’re on the right track, trust us” as he implored the fans not to lose patience.

Lukaku’s words were appreciated by the fans, and there is faith from them that the team can turn things around if they start being more clinical with their chances.

Moreover, the Gazzetta reports, the Inter fans were not unhappy with the Belgian’s performance against Salernitana regardless of some of his missed chances.

It did not go unnoticed by the Nerazzurri supporters that Lukaku showed no lack of effort.

The Belgian’s intense and hardworking performance leading the line and the way he got physically stuck in to hold up the ball was well-received, even if for the moment the ball isn’t going into the net, for he or for the team.
