Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is expected to make five changes to the starting eleven for tomorrow evening’s Serie A match against Monza.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that defender Stefan de Vrij and striker Romelu Lukaku will be among the players to come into the team compared to the eleven that lined up against Benfica.
Inzaghi will be thinking about squad rotation in view of the massive pile-up of fixtures at this stage of the season, with the Nerazzurri still active on three fronts.
In the league, it will be all-important that Inter get back to winning ways against Monza at the San Siro tomorrow evening, considering that the team have now gone four without a win in Serie A in a run stretching back before the international break.
However, there are also the team’s quest to reach the finals of the Coppa Italia and the Champions League to be considered.
It is in the latter competition that the Nerazzurri secured a 2-0 win away to Benfica in the quarterfinal first leg over the week.
Compared to the starting lineup for Tuesday’s match, however, several changes all over the pitch.
De Vrij will take the place of Francesco Acerbi at the heart of defense, whilst on the left flank Robin Gosens is set to start in place of Federico Dimarco.
The attack will be changed around, the Gazzetta predicts, with Lukaku as well as Joaquin Correa taking the place of Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko after their impactful substitute appearances against Benfica.
Lastly, Roberto Gagliardini is anticipated to make a rare start in midfield, giving Henrikh Mkhitaryan a rest from the starting eleven.
