Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has named his favourite ever goal that he has scored for the club.

Speaking to the club’s official Matchday Program ahead of this evening’s Serie A match against Monza, the 30-year-old looked back to the strike that kicked off a memorable comeback in a 4-2 win against AC Milan in the Milan derby in February of 2020 as the best of his Nerazzurri career.

There have been no shortage of memorable derby clashes with AC Milan for Inter in recent years, though few can quite match the second league meeting between the city rivals during the 2019-20 season for sheer drama.

That match had seen the Rossoneri take a two-goal lead late in the first half, with goals coming from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic.

However, the Nerazzurri fought back at the start of the second, with two quickfire goals coming from midfielders Brozovic and Matias Vecino during the first ten minutes after the interval.

Stefan de Vrij put the Nerazzurri ahead with a header from a corner in the seventieth minute of the match, although they had to hang on to their lead for twenty minutes.

In what has become an iconic derby moment for Inter, Romelu Lukaku scored a fourth in stoppage time to give real catharic release to all the Nerazzurri fans and players in the San Siro.

None of it would have been possible without Brozovic, though, as the Croat pulled one back for the Nerazzurri when they were desperate for a goal.

The 30-year-old is hardly renowned for his goalscoring, as thirty goals from a total of 315 appearances for Inter are a testament to the fact that scoring is not his main job.

However, when he does get himself in front of goal, the Croat has always proved that he knows what to do.

Asked about his favourite goal, Brozovic replied “The one that opened the comeback when we won 4-2 in the derby in February of 2020.”

“We were two goals down, I watched the ball come down and I hit it with my left foot on the volley,” he added, ” it was a brilliant goal and an exhilarating moment, I was deeply happy.”
