Inter defender Milan Skriniar is not likely to make another appearance this season, and by extension, for the Nerazzurri.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the length of the Slovakian international’s recovery period following back surgery received in France will almost certainly mean that he will be out for 30-40 days.

Inter confirmed today that Skriniar underwent endoscopic surgery yesterday on his lumbar spine.

It was further reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport that the procedure took place in France, in a clinic with strong ties to the club that the 28-year-old is expected to join on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Inter expires.

It had even been reported by French outlet Le Parisien that PSG could potentially pull out of their long anticipated move to sign Skriniar, if the former Sampdoria defender were to prove to have too many potentially long-term injury complications based on his medical examinations.

However, the surgery that Skriniar received yesterday was a measure taken to prevent the injury which he has been dealing with since the end of February from becoming a more lasting problem.

Whilst the intention of having the surgery is to have Skriniar’s fitness sorted out in the longer term, in the immediate future the implication will be that he is set to miss an extended period whilst he recovers.

Whilst this may not be more than 30-40 as Sky indicates would be the minimum amount of time that the defender will be on the sidelines, the timing of this is far from ideal for Inter.

The Nerazzurri are now in the final weeks of their season, still fighting on three fronts with eight matches left in Serie A and at least the semifinal second leg of the Coppa Italia against Juventus and both legs of the Champions League semifinal tie against AC Milan.

Skriniar is not set to be fit for any of those matches, and instead Sky report that by the time he returns to fitness he will be wearing a PSG shirt.
