Chelsea and Manchester United are not relenting in their efforts to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Cameroonian remains a major target for both Premier League giants, and that the Nerazzurri would find it hard not to listen to offers of €40 million or more.
Whilst Inter will hardly be keen to have to replace a player as important as Onana just one season after his arrival, particularly given that he was brought in as a long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic, the Corriere note that circumstances would make it difficult to be completely deaf to offers.
According to newspaper, €40 million would be the amount at which the Nerazzurri would consider the possibility of cashing in on the 27-year-old.
Onana’s heroics in the Champions League have been key to Inter’s deep run in the knockout rounds of the competition, and they have also caught they eye of Chelsea and United.
The Blues are looking to sign a new starting goalkeeper with neither Kepa Arrizabalaga nor Edouard Mendy convincing this season, and Inter’s Onana is their number-one target.
Meanwhile, the Cameroonian is also on the radar of Man United should they decide to replace David De Gea this summer.
Neither of the pair are likely to give up upon having initial offers rebuffed, and according to the Corriere the Nerazzurri could be inclined to listen to offers of a certain size given the need to generate cash in the transfer market this summer.
Meanwhile, the newspaper also makes a comparison to Inter’s situation at the end of the 2000-01 season.
Sebastien Frey had been the first-choice in goal throughout that campaign, but then was sold to Parma, with Francesco Toldo coming in from Lazio where he became Number One in goal for several seasons.
