Inter Milan have brought their wage bill down since last season but the club is still working to reduce their outlay further, regardless of if they play Champions League football next season or not.
This according to yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInterNews.
According to the report, the Nerazzurri’s total wages has fallen from €150 million gross per season last year to €132m for the current season.
However, club owners Suning remain keen to bring costs down further, especially if the club miss out on the Champions League next season.
Even if the Nerazzurri were to play in the Champions League next season, the club will bring down the gross annual wage bill even further, the report continues.
This is in stark contract to Champions League qualification rivals Roma, with Inter’s opponents in Serie A committed to €90 million per year before bonuses, and they are also seeking a reduction in order to meet UEFA regulations.
The highest earner at Inter is striker Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgium international netting €12.5 million gross after returning to the club on loan from Chelsea,
Meanwhile Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic also weigh heavily on the balance sheet, earning reportedly around €11 million gross per year.
Roma’s top earners are captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paris Saint-Germain loanee Georginio Wijnaldum, at €5m net, whilst Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham earn €4.5m.
