Inter Milan president Steven Zhang is proud of his team’s performance despite coming just short in the Champions League final, while he remains hopeful of reaching an agreement with Chelsea regarding the future of Romelu Lukaku.

Simone Inzaghi’s men put up an impressive showing but failed to capitalize on their chances in the second half. Therefore, Rodri’s solitary strike in the 68th minute was enough to secure the Cityzens’ first-ever Champions League triumph.

For his part, the Nerazzurri chairman was utterly devastated by the 0-1 defeat at the hands of Man City in the UCL final. Nevertheless, he insists that his players have demonstrated their great quality.

“It was a final played with pride. Winning and losing is part of football,” said Zhang in his post-match interview with Sky via La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I still want to congratulate the staff, the players and the coach for what they did. It was an incredible game, they gave 100%.

“At the same time, I congratulate City, they had a great season. We are proud to have reached the final and playing against the best while showing our qualities, without fear, regardless of the result.

On another note, Zhang remains coy on the future of Chelsea-owned striker Romelu Lukaku whose loan stint at Inter will expire at the end of the month.

The Nerazzurri president says the two clubs will have to sit at the same table in the hopes of finding a satisfying solution.

“Lukaku has shown his attachment to Inter. He’s an incredible lad. He has a contract with Chelsea, so we’ll have to talk to them to further understand the situation.”
