Inter Milan could try to loan in out-of-favour West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca to replace Edin Dzeko this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old is one of the Nerazzurri’s main targets for the event that Dzeko decides not to extend his contract.
The future of Dzeko at Inter is currently very much in the balance.
The 37-year-old Bosnian international’s current contract is set to run out at the end of this month.
Inter have offered the player a one-year extension, but Turkish giants Fenerbahce have also offered him a new deal. For his part, Dzeko is seriously considering accepting Fenerbahce’s offer.
If the former Roma and Manchester City striker is to leave, Inter will have to replace him.
The club’s aim is to bring in a forward with a similar profile to replace Dzeko like-for-like.
Inter Want West Ham Star Scamacca To Replace Dzeko
The Nerazzurri’s plan to replace Dzeko if the Bosnian leaves could be to reignite their interest in a former target.
Inter had already chased former Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca last summer. However, it was Premier League side West Ham who won the race for his signature.
The Hammers signed Scamacca from the Neroverdi in a big money move.
However, the Italian international hasn’t really lived up to expectations at the London Stadium.
Despite the Hammers ending the season by winning the Europa Conference League, Scamacca did not feature in the final against Fiorentina.
The striker could already be looking for an exit from east London. He would want somewhere that he can play regular football after not being in the first-choice starting eleven under David Moyes.
According to the Gazzetta, Inter are keen to sign Scamacca if Dzeko goes.
However, the Nerazzurri would only move for the 24-year-old if West Ham open up to a loan deal.
