Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer is still pushing for a transfer to Inter Milan but the negotiations between the clubs have been halted.

As we reported earlier today, the Bavarians have put the whole operation on ice as they failed to reach an agreement with Valencia for Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Bundesliga champions had identified the young North Macedonian as a replacement for Sommer.

So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Bayern don’t intend to release the Swiss veteran at the moment.

The German giants had signed the 34-year-old last January to serve in Manuel Neuer’s stead until he recovers from a lengthy injury.

As the source explains, the 2014 World Cup winner is still struggling on the physical level. Thus, Bayern won’t deprive themselves of Sommer’s services in the absence of a competent alternative.

Yann Sommer Has Already Agreed To Join Inter Milan, But Bayern Munich Don’t Want To Release Him Before Signing A Replacement

For their part, Inter were hoping to have Sommer at Simone Inzaghi’s disposal before the upcoming pre-season in Japan.

The Nerazzurri have just sold Andre Onana to Man United while Samir Handanovic had left following the expiry of his contract. This leaves the manager short of options between the sticks.

However, the source expects the Switzerland international to join Bayern’s squad instead. The Bavarians will also be touring in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The report believes the two clubs will update one another on the situation in the coming days. Perhaps talks will resume during their stay in Japan.

The source adds that Sommer is still pushing to get the deal through. The custodian has reportedly reached a two-year agreement with the Italian giants.

Meanwhile, four other options remain on the club’s radar. These are Shakhtar Donetsk youngster Anatoliy Trubin, PSG wantaway Keylor Navas, in addition to free agents Hugo Lloris and David De Gea,
