Speaking to Sportske Novosti, the coach of the Croatian national team Niko Kovac has extensively discussed the situation of Mateo Kovacic: Kovac confirmed the Inter man as one of the pillars of the Croatian midfield for the next World Cup, despite the fact that the Nerazzurri youngster is not experiencing an easy moment. Kovac tends to emphasize: “Kovacic is 19 years old, is a young guy, he still has a great desire to learn. There is nothing wrong with his desire to help the coach, but in matches against Juve certain responsibilities should be taken by players with more expertise.”
Kovac adds: “From Mateo I expect that he gives the maximum, and I’m sure he will do so. I’m Confident that we will benefit from his work. There are so many talented players with a great future, but he should work and look forward.” He then commented on the criticism Kovacic has recieved recently and concluded: “You can see where Inter are in the table? certainly not his fault.”
