Simone Inzaghi has gone from being on the verge of a sacking to a contract extension at Inter Milan in the space of five months.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight how the coach has completely turned his fortunes around after he had looked to be hanging on by a thread at the Nerazzurri.

Now it’s official – Inter have extended the contract of their coach Inzaghi until the end of June 2025.

This is as much a symbolic gesture as anything. The Nerazzurri have sent a clear message that they have faith in the 47-year-old and want to continue on with him.

That’s a signal few expected to come early in April of this year.

Inter were in the midst of an out-an-out crisis of form at that point. Losses to Spezia, Juventus, and Fiorentina had put Inzaghi in the hot seat. And then a draw away to Salernitana followed by a home loss to Monza seemed to all but seal his fate.

But from there, Inzaghi has turned it around completely.

Simone Inzaghi From Zero To Hero At Inter Milan

Many expected that Inter would already sack Inzaghi before the end of last season.

The collapse of the team’s form in Serie A was such that there was a prevailing current of thought that they may have to rely on a “new manager bounce” to secure a top four spot.

But that was not how Inter’s directors view it.

The Nerazzurri took a patient approach. They allowed Inzaghi the time to prove himself.

The coach guided Inter to the Champions League semifinals. The team’s two-legged victory over Benfica was virtually the one positive side amid a brutal run in the league.

And from there, Inter and Inzaghi got out of their slump.

The Nerazzurri finished third in the Serie A table in the end.

And victory in the Coppa Italia as well as an appearance in the Champions League final were a testament to the new life that Inzaghi had breathed into the team.

By the start of the summer it was clear. Inter and Inzaghi were ready to go on together.

The extension of the former Lazio coach’s contract has long looked like a formality. And now, Inter have sealed it.
